I. A Brief Introduction
Human Geography & Urban-rural Planning major in Central China Normal University (CCNU), based on the theories of human geography, urban planning, etc., aims at cultivating excellent candidates for graduates majoring in Human Geography, Regional Development and Urban Planning, Regional Economics and excellent practical talents for industries related to urban-rural development, regional development and planning, urban planning, land use planning, etc. There are more than 40 faculty members (including 16 full professors and 16 associate professors) serving this major. The department of Human Geography & Urban-rural Planning has the authority to entitle doctoral degree in Human Geography, and master degree in Human Geography, Regional Development and Urban-rural Planning and Regional Economics. It possesses several research platforms such as Hubei provincial key discipline in Human Geography, China Institute of Resource-economical & Environment-friendly Society Construction and Reform. It has also established website resources for some excellent courses including economic geography, human geography. We have Hubei’s Experiment-teaching Demonstration Center of Geography Sciences, and laboratories for physical geography process, human geography process, GIS, spatial analysis and mapping and land use & environmental change. It can also provide students chances of field work and internship in Yichang, Wuhan branch of South Surveying & Mapping Instrument Co., Ltd. Overall, students of this major will share these excellent resources here to study and grow up.
II. Educational Objectives
The objectives of this major are three folds: to cultivate excellent talents acquiring solid theories of human geography and capabilities to apply them into the urban-rural planning affairs, to provide excellent candidates for graduates majoring in Human Geography, Regional Development and Planning, Urban Planning and Design and Regional Economics, to supply professional talents for the governments and enterprises of urban-rural development, regional development and planning, urban planning, land use planning, tourism planning, environment planning, etc.
III. Basic Requirements
Graduates of this major are expected to :
1) have sound personalities and figures, good morality, high social responsibility, awareness of teamwork and proficiency in organization, management and adapting to new environment.
2) be proficient in basic theories, knowledge and skills of human geography and urban-rural planning, know the forefronts, prospective and latest developments of these fields, be acquaint with the general principles and methods of urban planning, land resource management and environment science, be adept at the general regulations of urban planning, land resource management and sustainable development.
3) be skilled in the technologies and techniques of human geography and urban –rural planning such RS, GIS, GPS, as well as the fundamental knowledge of advanced mathematics, liner algebra and probability statictics.
4) be trained with scientific thinking and methods so as to have creative consciousness, collaborative working and scientific researching abilities, be able to investigate, collect and search information with modern technologies and be good at analyzing, summarizing and data-processing and paper-writing.
5) possess ample humanistic qualities, be good at presenting and communicating, and be fluent in at least one foreign language.
